Steel Ingot

Steel ingots are used as raw materials to produce various steel products. This product is generally produced with a length of 6 and 12 meters and a cross-sectional area in the form of squares and rectangles with different dimensions. Due to the widespread use of steel ingots for producing long sections, this product is produced with different alloys. The process of making ingots is the intermediate process of rolling steel. (During the intermediate processes, the raw material is produced for the downstream industries.) In fact, after making raw steel and preparing molten metal in special furnaces, ingots are made by freezing molten materials into molds.

The final products are produced in Iran according to the appearance and type of the production process of the final product, namely billet, bloom, and slab.

Billet is one of the steel ingots that have a square or circular cross-sectional area. The dimensions of the cross-sectional area of the billet are 100, 120, 125, 130, 150, 160 and with a length of 6 and 12 meters as standard. The uses of this product are for the production of rebars and wires. The grades of billet products are 3SP, 4SP, and 5SP.

Other steel ingots with a square or rectangular cross-section are called bloom ingots. One of the differences between bloom ingots and billets is the larger cross-sectional area of the bloom. Yes, the general dimensions of the bloom are 180 x 180, 200 x 200, 250 x 250. Bloom is often used for the production of all types of structural steel sections and everything that requires a variety of deformation and rolling processes (beams, gutters, cans, sprays, seamless pipes, rebar, etc.) This product is similar to billet with grades of 3SP, 4SP, and 5SP.

Slab Slabs are another type of steel ingots that can only have a rectangular cross-sectional surface. This product is categorized based on its width, thickness, and length. The dimensions of this product are produced in thicknesses of 180 to 300 mm in Iran. Generally, slabs are produced in Iran with a thickness of 230 mm, a width of 1.25 meters, and a length of 12 meters. From slabs to the production of products such as coils, sheets, tubes, pipes, etc. The grade of this product in the market is per a Russian standard called GOST380 with two grades, 5SP and 3SP
